“Bakewell Tart-ini”: A Delicious Cherry-Almond Gin Cocktail

When I find something that manages to combine my deep and abiding love for the Great British Bake-Off with my love of cocktails, I know I have a winner.  And this Bakewell tart-inspired cocktail with strong cherry and almond flavors (called the “Bakewell Tart-ini”) definitely qualifies.

So…”soggy bottoms up” (HA) and let’s get started!

This cherry almond cocktail has a coziness to it (though it’s cold) that makes it a perfect fall drink.  For whatever reason, anything with amaretto makes visions of fall leaves and crackling fires dance through my head.

The two biggest flavors—and what makes it a cocktail that tastes like Bakewell tart—are a rich cherry from Luxardo’s Sangue Morlacco, and sweet, bitter almond from amaretto.

Both are balanced out by the tartness from fresh lemon juice, and (if you have it) a tiny bit of warmth from Licor 43’s vanilla spice.

Making this cherry almond cocktail takes like…two minutes.  All you do is put lots of ice in your cocktail shaker and add all the ingredients.  Shake vigorously for 15 to 20 seconds.

Strain into a coupe or Nick & Nora glass.  Garnish with Amarena cherries if desired (I love these cute cocktail picks!).

I would like to try this with a shaken egg white at some point…it would definitely change the character of the drink, kind of lighten it up, but I think it would be super fun!

"Bakewell Tart-ini": A Delicious Cherry-Almond Gin Cocktail

Yield: 1 cocktail
Prep Time: 2 minutes
Total Time: 2 minutes

This indulgent cherry almond cocktail made with gin is reminiscent of the famous Bakewell tart, a British classic dessert. With punchy cherry and almond liqueurs, this drink recipe is super easy and delicious!

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce of Luxardo Sangue Morlacco
  • 1 ounce of amaretto (I prefer Disaronno)
  • 1 ounce of (good) gin
  • 1/2 ounce of fresh lemon juice (see notes); go light at first
  • 1/4 ounce of Licor43
  • Optional:  Cherry vanilla bark or spiced cherry bitters
  • Optional garnish: Amarena cherries

Instructions

  1. Put lots of ice in a cocktail shaker and add all the ingredients.
  2. Shake for 15 to 20 seconds.
  3. Strain into a coupe or Nick & Nora glass.  Garnish with Amarena cherries if desired.

Notes

Definitely go light on the lemon juice at first, start with a scant 1/2 ounce and taste the cocktail first.  Too much lemon juice will drown out the amaretto if you're not careful.

  1. That is fantastic. I did not have licor 43 so I mixed a bit of vanilla with Dorange (an orange Grappa ) as a substitute. Wow. pretty sure my new favorite drink
