I’d pinned a cranberry whiskey sour recipe a while back, but when I looked closer it just called for regular cranberry juice. And that seemed…like it would end up a bit weak and watery.
So I concepted an easy cinnamon cranberry simple syrup, for a more concentrated and fresh flavor. I loved getting layers of warm cinnamon flavor in the syrup itself, to complement the tartness of the fresh cranberries (which I always keep in my freezer, just in case).
And one note, you can make this festive whiskey sour with or without egg white. I’m a HUGE fan of having egg white in whiskey sours, so definitely advocate for it here. The only reason I didn’t show it in the pics is that I currently have a massive food sensitivity to egg white so it’s off the table for a bit.
If you’re using the egg white, put it in the cocktail shaker by itself and shake for 15-20 seconds…this is referred to as a dry shake, and helps the egg white foam form.
Then add the bourbon, lemon juice, spiced cranberry syrup, and cardamom bitters (if using). Shake for 15 seconds WITHOUT ice. Then add ice to the cocktail shaker and shake for another 15 to 20 seconds.
If you’re NOT using an egg white, start by filling your cocktail shaker halfway with ice, then add the bourbon, lemon juice, spiced cranberry simple syrup, and cardamom bitters (if usings). Shake for at least 15 seconds.
In both cases, taste to make sure the balance is right. Then strain into a small rocks glass filled halfway with ice and garnish as desired.
I love how versatile whiskey sours are, and this winter version is a winner!

Cinnamon Cranberry Whiskey Sour (With or Without Egg White)
This easy spiced cranberry whiskey sour is a perfect fall cocktail or winter drink recipe. Made with a tart cinnamon cranberry simple syrup and good bourbon, it's a delicious festive cocktail that only takes a minute to make!
Ingredients
- 1 egg white (optional)
- 2 ounces of good bourbon whiskey (I recommend in the 90-100 proof range)
- 1 ounce of fresh lemon juice
- 1 ounce of cinnamon cranberry simple syrup (see easy recipe in post!)
- Optional: a few drops of cardamom bitters
- Cinnamon stick, orange peel, or sugared cranberries for garnish
Instructions
- If using the egg white, put it in the cocktail shaker by itself and shake for 15-20 seconds...this is referred to as a dry shake, and helps the egg white foam form.
- Then add the bourbon, lemon juice, spiced cranberry syrup, and cardamom bitters (if using). Shake for 15 seconds WITHOUT ice. Then add ice to the cocktail shaker and shake for another 15 to 20 seconds.
- If NOT using an egg white, start by filling your cocktail shaker halfway with ice, then add the bourbon, lemon juice, spiced cranberry simple syrup, and cardamom bitters (if using). Shake for at least 15 seconds.
- In both cases, taste to make sure the balance is right. Then strain into a small rocks glass filled halfway with ice and garnish as desired.
Notes
I sometimes use 1 1/2 ounces of the spiced cranberry syrup, but it can be a bit too sweet so start on the lower end, taste, and add more if you like.
