A Gift Guide for Coffee Lovers
It’s no secret that I LOOOOVVVVEEEE coffee. And I have very strong thoughts about *good* coffee, all the many ways to make coffee, and why I’d rather drink herbal tea than bad coffee. Maybe you have someone similar in your life?? If so, I have the gift guide for you!
These coffee gift ideas can help them elevate their coffee game at home and make delicious coffee while traveling. There’s something here for any kind of coffee connoisseur!
Nespresso machine
I am a longtime superfan of Nespresso’s machines, and keeping them both at my work and at home. It’s honestly shocking how good of an espresso you can get from them, including the crema on top. And they’re pretty darn affordable!
I’m partial to the (I think sadly discontinued) Inissia style, which is smaller, streamlined, and uses the more universal pods. They seem to be focusing on their Vertuo models moving forward, which uses the bigger pods.
Artizan coffee roasters organic espresso pods
This has become one of my favorite gifts for the coffee lovers in my life, specifically those who already have a Nespresso machine!
Artizan Coffee offers pods that are organic coffee, and that are compostable. This addresses two of the biggest concerns people have about the Nespresso pods. For me, because I know how toxic most coffee can be, I really focus on finding organic beans and, if I’m drinking decaf, that it’s Swiss water process. Artizan ticks both those boxes. Additionally, the pods are biodegradable and compostable, if you’re concerned about the single-use aspect.
They have pods for both Nespresso and Ese, as well as regular beans and ground coffee.
A kettle that’s both beautiful & useful
This gooseneck electric kettle is perfect for exactly controlling the temperature you want (critical for both coffee and tea excellence), and it’s so aesthetically pleasing! As someone who not only makes tea but uses a pourover filter every day, having this level of control is amazing.
Pourover filter
There are a couple different directions you can go here, but switching to a pourover filter has really been a gamechanger for me. I started with the simple stainless steel Kalita Wave, and have absolutely loved it.
It’s easy to use, easy to clean, and I throw it in my carry-on with a few filters when I’m traveling so I can have great coffee anywhere.
Chemex pourover
The Chemex pourover has been a coffee cult favorite for years, largely because its thicker filter results in a less-acidic, softer drink that lets the nuanced coffee flavors come through. And it’s so aesthetically pleasing!
Aeropress
I’ve already written an ode to the Aeropress, which is another cult classic. The Aeropress is the best of all worlds…small, simple, easy to use, easy to clean, and makes a great cup of coffee. It also travels well, which I’ve found handy from time to time.
Beautiful French press
I personally prefer the ease of a pourover (and often the taste), but I always fall for the overall experience and aesthetics of the classic French press. And this one is beautiful!
Traditional moka pot
When I lived in Italy for a summer, I loved watching my host mom brew espresso on the stove with her moka pot. For a real coffee obsessive, this is a true classic!
A great coffee bean grinder
A really good coffee bean grinder is a thing of beauty, and a conical burr grinder is the gold standard because you can easily change the coarseness depending on the type of bean and how you’re brewing it.
I’ll be honest, it’s taken a lot of willpower not to snap this up (I have two grinders already, so…it would be a bit overkill). It’s definitely what I’ll go with as soon as one of mine dies.
A self-warming coffee cup
This goes out to all the mamas out there! Lol literally every time I go to put something in the microwave at my parents’ house, I have to pull my mom’s coffee cup out first. Or maybe you just like to enjoy your cup without guzzling it.
This coffee cup with built-in warmer is a bit of a splurge, but my BFF (who works from home and sits on calls where her coffee goes cold) swears by it. And you avoid that weird stale metallic taste you get from microwaving.
Milk frother
I’d talked at length about how milk frothers really up your coffee game at home, and make an everyday drink feel so fancy. Plus, you can make a barista-worthy latte at home!
This one is my favorite type right now as it’s easy to clean and hands-off, but the article linked above talks about different versions depending on your needs.
Hyperchiller
This gadget is so cool!! And it’s multi-purpose…you can use it to chill freshly-brewed coffee or espresso for an iced drink that’s not watered down, or you can use it to chill room temp wine, hot simple syrup, or anything else you didn’t plan ahead for.
Basically, you keep it in the freezer and then pour your liquid in it, and 60 seconds later you have a chilled drink!
Travel electric kettle
I LOVE the idea of having a tiny kettle to take with me everywhere I go…it’s all you need to have really good coffee or tea anywhere. In some places (like Europe), they’re omnipresent, but many places I travel don’t give me anything except a disgusting Keurig.
With this, all you need is electricity and you can brew a good cup of tea, you can make espresso (see the next gift), or use your pourover or Aeropress. The world’s your oyster!
Travel espresso maker
The idea of a travel espresso maker that’s this size and weighs almost nothing is…fascinating. If I’m going to Europe, no need. But I’m often traveling to rural Tennessee for work, or somewhere else where I can’t get a decent coffee, and this thing is about to become my bestie.
Note, they have a couple different versions depending on your needs. This one uses Nespresso (or compatible) pods, but there are verisons that use ground coffee if you prefer, or one that has an adapter to do both. You will still need access to boiling water to operate this (see travel kettle above).
Glasses & straws for iced coffee
There are a few styles of iced coffee glass that I love and have gifted before, including these ones with personalized names and birth flower and this more simple one.
I also use both these reusable metal straws and biodegradable bamboo ones.
A great drip coffee pot
I’m not personally a huge fan of drip coffee, but if you’re looking for a new “regular” drip coffee pot, this OXO has my vote.
It has a stainless steel and glass water container, double-walled to keep coffee hot. The single-serve podless option cuts down on waste, and the machine has a ton of programmable settings to get exactly the cup of coffee you’re looking for.
Vacuum canister
Most people don’t realize how important it is to keep your coffee beans SUPER fresh, and how short the window is for them to start going bad.
(Also, please never put your coffee beans in the fridge or freezer…so much moisture! This PSA has been brought to you by #TheMoreYouKnow)
So a vacuum-sealed canister plays a huge role in keeping coffee beans (or ground) fresh for longer, keeping moisture out, and keeping it from light exposure. I have one for my regular coffee and one for my decaf.
Decoration while your coffee brews
In that seemingly-interminable wait for the good stuff, your loved one can gaze upon this fun coffee-themed print and contemplate what they’ll make next!
Gorgeous or interesting coffee mugs
I am obsessed with my mug collection, and it brings not only me joy, but others when they visit…my mom always spends a few minutes each time choosing which mug she’s in the mood for. Mugs are actually my #1 travel souvenir, so I have tons of unique ones and each has a story.
So choosing a beautiful or funny mug for the coffee lover in your life is always a special option. Your options are endless…you can go beautiful and cozy, a set that’s a bit more modern, or quirky (this one’s great for parents).
