Most Amazing Peanut Butter Frosting Ever
I’ve found it, guys. A frosting that I adore…I guess I shouldn’t be surprised it’s peanut butter.
I really hate frosting. I actually had a co-worker at my last job that was my perfect match—whenever there was cake around, she’d eat the frosting and I’d eat the cake. But this peanut butter frosting is one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. Crazy peanut butter-y, some good saltiness, not too sweet.
I could eat it by itself with a spoon. Until I look at the calorie count, but still…

It’s packed with flavor and a little goes a long way. If you’re wanting to frost a cake more traditionally (which takes a LOT of frosting) then this may not be quite the right frosting…a truly traditional buttercream or cream cheese frosting might be better.

But if it’s more about the flavor than being a cake decoration then this is your guy.
That’s not to say you can’t color it and use it as decoration…I did recently for a baby shower cake, and it turned out pretty good! I had trouble getting the burgundy to really get dark enough and the gold to stand out, but it worked out in the end.

I will say that you shouldn’t use natural peanut butter (with all the oil separation) for this, the texture isn’t right. I love a simple creamy Skippy or Jiff (it can be their natural one, as it still is fully emulsified).
You also want your butter softened really well, so you don’t get lumps. I recommend (though almost never do myself) that you sift your powdered sugar as well, or you’ll have lumps. I just deal with the lumps, to be honest, because I’m really lazy.

Mmm mmm mmm! I am just so in love with this peanut butter frosting that I want to put it on everything!

Ingredients
- 1 cup of peanut butter I used Skippy creamy
- 1/2 cup of softened butter I used unsalted
- 1 cup of powdered sugar
- A pinch of sea salt crystals big crystals are ideal
- Optional: 1-2 tablespoons of heavy cream or 2% or whole milk
Instructions
- Beat the butter in your stand mixer or with an electric hand mixer, then add the peanut butter and beat for about 30 seconds to combine it.
- Add the powdered sugar a little at a time and a pinch of salt, and beat that in until fluffy.
- Add 1 tablespoon of the cream or milk (if needed). Chill if not using right away.
Notes
- Makes enough for a solid covering over a 9x13 cake
- I recommend you don't use natural peanut butter for this (the kind where the oil separates)
- It's recommended to sift your powdered sugar or you'll have lumps
