Ingredients

  • 1.5 ounces of bourbon whiskey
  • 1.5 ounces of freshly-squeezed grapefruit juice
  • Half an ounce of honey syrup a simple syrup made from equal parts water and honey, simmered, cooled
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional: Small grapefruit slice for garnish

Instructions

  • Combine the bourbon, grapefruit juice, and honey syrup in a shaker with ice cubes and shake vigorously for at least eight seconds.
  • Strain into a chilled coupe glass or rocks glass and garnish with the grapefruit slice.

Notes

  • Fresh grapefruit juice really does make a difference in flavor, though you can use store-bought if you need to
  • The honey syrup is super easy to make, just use equal parts honey and water to make a simple syrup (bring to a simmer and super light boil over medium heat and immediately remove from heat to thicken)
